The Missing Dollar
Three men walk into a motel and rent a single room for $30, sharing equally in the cost. After the men had retired to their room, the desk clerk realized that he had overcharged the men by $5, which he gave the bellboy with instructions to return the money to them. The bellboy decided to keep $2 for himself, returning only $1 to each man. Thus each man actually paid only $9, and the three men now paid a total of $27. The bellboy kept $2, making a total of $29. We started with $30, so what happened to the other dollar?
